G4 Racing secured its second win of the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship in Race 2 at Valencia. Circuit Ricardo Tormo hosted a second home event for the Barcelona-based Swiss squad, more than determined to bring home some serious silverware. After taking his maiden pole-to-win hat-trick in Spa-Francorchamps, Michael Belov did it all again in Valencia.

In qualifying 2, the Russian driver set the fastest time by two-tenths of a second. Then, with a brilliant display of tire management, he went on to achieve his second win of the year. Despite missing half of the season, Belov has now reached the top-10 in the Driver standings, while G4 Racing continues to make progress in the Team Championship, where it now lays in 6th place.

Axel Gnos made significant progress compared to Saturday, setting the 18th fastest in qualifying 2. Unfortunately, a bad start forced him to fight back, and he eventually climbed to P20, showing a strong pace. Belén García gained crucial experience in her Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine comeback, which will help her to aim for the podium in the W Series finale.

Adrián Muñoz (Sporting and Technical Manager): “Qualifying worked much better on Sunday than on Saturday. Michael got a superb lap that gave him pole, Axel learned from his qualifying 1 mistakes with track limits and traffic and got a P18. Belén was disturbed by traffic and by some slow cars in front. In the race, Michael managed a decent start to maintain P1, and then controlled the race and tyre management to perfection. Even when the safety car came out he never lost sight of the plan. Axel had some issues in the start as he couldn’t see the lights properly, and had a slow jump. He had to fight hard to recover positions. Belén struggled with traffic as she couldn’t overtake some cars in front that were constantly abusing track limits. However, she showed a good pace on her comeback in the highly competitive FRECA. I would like to thank all our staff for doing a superb job like always we had a good weekend free of troubles, and we continue progressing in the Team’s championship. Italian Job coming soon…”.

Axel Gnos (Driver): “Qualifying 2 was very good as we had a big potential. I had a few problems with traffic and didn’t really put everything together. Unfortunately, I had a bad start from P18 and had to fight hard for the whole race to finish P20 with a good pace”.

Michael Belov (Driver): “I’m very pleased with the second win of the season. Starting from pole, I could save the tires in the first half of the race, trying to maximize my last bit. Everything really worked really well even if the start was not perfect, but I still managed to hold onto the first place. We keep improving, and today the car balance was even better compared to race 1”.

Belén García (Driver): “Obviously not the improvement I was hoping for, tough weekend for me. Struggled with the setup today and couldn’t find the pace. We’ll learn from mistakes and hopefully, come back soon and stronger to the series. It has been a pleasure even if I have not been where I want to be”.
