The final back-to-back stint of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine started from Barcelona, which hosted round 9 of 2022 before the conclusion this weekend in Mugello.

For G4 Racing it has been a challenging event, starting from qualifying 1, which was delayed by more than one hour due to the fog. When the visibility conditions were finally good enough, the race director decided to put the two groups together, so all 35 cars hit the track at the same time.

Matias clinched P27, while Axel room home P30 in his first qualifying session since the back injury he suffered in Spa. A strong comeback in race 1 was halted by a penalty, which affected both cars. Matias, who made a good recovery from P27 to P21, ultimately ended P24 after the additional 10 seconds were added to his race time. Axel made his way from P30 to P27, fending off a group of rivals in the closing stages. He was classified in P29.

Once again in race 2 Matias and Axel managed to climb back the field after a tough qualifying session. Thanks to a brilliant start Matias was able to recover 7 positions, securing his best season result in P18 overall and P9 in the rookie standings. An unscheduled pit stop to change the front wing, which was damaged by contact with another driver, ruined Axel’s comeback and he finally resulted in P28.

Axel Gnos: “I am very happy to be back and I had fun driving at the team’s home track. Tough weekend overall, struggling a lot to find the confidence and the pace back. I am optimistic towards Mugello and I will try to keep improving and pushing to get closer to the pack there.”

Matías Zagazeta: “Another weekend finished at Barcelona and it was a good experience, we managed to recover several positions in the two Races after two complicated qualifications and finish with a P18. Now we quickly prepare for the last round in Mugello”
