It was a positive weekend for G4 Racing at the Spanish venue of Montmelò, home to the second round of the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. On Saturday, the series went underway with two qualifying sessions and one race. G4 Racing had a positive run and secured a great ninth-place finish with Michael Belov. He was eighth in Group A of qualifying 2, which set the field for race 1. He then started from P15 and delivered a remarkable recovery that eventually handed him two points.
Alessandro Giusti also put together a good comeback drive after ending up ninth in Group B and starting in P18 overall. The Frenchman eventually secured 13th place. The drivers had to navigate an eventful race featuring a red flag and a safety-car situation that neutralized the final stages.
For race 2, Belov started in row 7, one ahead of Giusti, and secured his second points finish of the weekend with P10. The team, led by Patrick Gnos, moved up to P7 in the team classification. Giusti ended up in 17th place, starting from Row 8. The team is now fully focused on the next event, which will be on the June 18th weekend at Budapest.
Alessandro Giusti (Driver #3): “It was not the weekend we expected at all. The pace was there, but the red flag in qualifying killed our result for the race. Now we will work for Hungary”.
Michael Belov (Driver #30): “Difficult home weekend for the team as we got faced with some issues. However, we showed that we are fast and competitive, thanks to the team for their job”.
Adrián Muñoz (Sporting and Technical Manager): “Our home race didn’t bring the expected results. The qualifying sessions did not go as planned due to traffic and a red flag that conditioned our grid positions. Overtaking at Barcelona is difficult, but Michael managed to improve his position and bring in some points for the championship. Alessandro continued his learning curve and improved many times during all weekend as the best rookie. In the next race at Hungaroring, we will continue fighting to bring the best results possible”.
